In the late 1980s, the stretch of Tilly Mill Road approaching
Peachtree Industrial Boulevard was the frontier of Dunwoody:
forests and brush, with little connection to the nearby
suburb.
In 1987, plans were developed for a new neighborhood. Unlike
most suburban developments, this was no mere "planned
community" with the latest in bland, identical housing.
The builder, Duane Brownlow, went back to basics and took
design inspiration from Victorian architecture. This neighborhood
was built of homes absolutely unique from each other in
design and detailing.
When the community was ready to open and the homes ready
to sell, Duane took the Victorian theme a step further and
offered tours to local real estate agents in horse-drawn
carriages. The neighborhood, now called Briers North, was
an instant hit with home buyers - the listings sold out
quickly.
Briers North became a community of close neighbors who
maintain the community as a labor of love. The committees
that beautify the neighborhood, work with Dunwoody North
and DeKalb County, and schedule maintenance are all volunteers.
There has never been a need for elected officers.
Not long after the community was established, Briers North's
most famous tradition began: Halloween! With no advertising
(or planning!) Briers North has become Mecca for trick-or-treaters
of all ages. Everyone gets into the act with elaborate house
decorations, costumes, and barrels of candy. More than five
thousand visitors arrived on October 31, 2004; like all
of our visitors, they are welcome to enjoy our neighborhood.
Briers North is the apex of community partnership and neighborhood
pride.
